I have got a phone call.

Email is not the only way the scammers can get to you. They will also randomly dial you. Here are the common types of phone calls you may get.

Claiming to be from Microsoft or other large IT company

Typically, they claim to be from a large company such as Microsoft or Apple and say that they have monitored your system and suspect you may have a virus or malware.

Note: Microsoft or any large IT company will not call you if someone requests remote access to your PC. Please make sure they are from your IT support provider or workplace, and normally, if you have already reported a problem, they would not be in contact with you .

What they want

They want access to your PC and may use various tricks to try to access your bank account or install monitoring software.

The best course of action

Hang up the call and wait five minutes to make another call, as sometimes scammers stay on the line and if calling someone else, make sure you have a dial tone.

if they continue, ask them how they got your details and say you are logging a GDPR request. usually, they hangup when you mention GDPR or Data Protection and do not call you back

They call up saying you have a significant transaction or they suspect fraud in your bank account again.

The wording will push urgency and try and make you act before you think.
